It's ok when American television shows like The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and SNL make fun of our leader Dubya but when The Germans start doing it we have to begin to worry!

Jesus Camp Trailer

I cannot believe what I am watching. Is this for real? I wonder if the film-maker was trying to bring awareness to this Jesus Camp by shedding a negative light on the camp or if they are trying to use this film as some sort of religious propaganda? I am hoping that it is purely to inform the public about what is going on in our country - I honestly have never heard of anything like this and to be completely honest I am not surprised. I see nothing wrong with it and support it fully. All I ask is that the campers and those affiliated with the camp just leave me alone and don't tell me what to do with my life - unfortunately this is not always the case, hence the controversy that this film will undoubtedly cause.

Replays at The U.S. Open

There is a fine line between whether or not to be in favor of instant replays in sports, I personally am not (unless it helps my team!!!). All kidding aside, I do not like the fact that referees, umpires, officials, etc. have a crutch to lean on when making calls. I have not liked it in the NFL, I didn't like it last year in College Football, and I certainly do not like it in tennis! What happened to human error just being part of the game? Players make mistakes all the time don't they? They just don't have the luxury of relying on a computer to fix their error in real-time.

My main objection to the new instant reply challenge system at The U.S. Open is that it is ONLY ON ONE COURT!!!! How f'n rude! How on Earth can you have a replay system in effect on only 1 of 18 active courts at a time?!?!?!? What about those players on court 13 - are those umpires just flawless? If so, let's get them onto Ashe. How about the number 1 seed playing on Armstrong who gets screwed out of a game by an errant call by a line judge - SOL I guess!

Hey USTA, make it a uniform rule or don't use it all - you can't pick and choose where you use technology.

A Subway Rant from a Guest Curmudgeon

A guest curmudgeon had the following to say about riding on the subway:

For some reason this happens quite a bit when I am on a subway platform or riding on the subway (also occasionally on the lirr). I almost always have my iPod headphones in and listen to music loudly so I can hear it and it drowns out sounds of people around me. There could be 50 people around me, all not listening to any music, no cords hanging from their ears, but if somebody needs a direction, or to ask somebody a question - they always pick me - even though it's incredibly obvious that in order to hear them I have to turn my iPod off or take out my ear buds.

Today on the subway there were about 20 people in my car - none of whom had headphones in and a woman asked me what the next stop was. She didn't say excuse me or anything...just started talking to me as if i could hear her. I just don't understand this phenomenon - and it happens way more often than it should. Maybe i just look like i know where I'm going?

New York Daily News - City News - Hey, Yankee fans, get yer warm beer!

Here are a few quotes from the article which I found interesting followed by my commentary:

"Armed with a thermometer and a fistful of twenties, the Daily News found that beer at yesterday's afternoon game was as warm as 60 degrees - closer to room temperature than freezing."

"It's warm. $8.75 for a beer, it should at least be cold," said Bob Henderson, 44, of Clinton, N.J., holding a bottle of Miller Lite.

"The News' two-day survey found numerous examples of beer being served at 50-plus degrees - way too warm, according to Miller and Anheuser-Busch, which says beer served over 45 degrees "quickly loses its zest."

"The recommended serving temperature for Miller Lite is around 36 degrees," said Miller spokesman Pete Marino.

- The funny thing about this article is that there is no mention of the fact that not only is $8.75 a rediculous amount of money for a beer, but it is really rediculous when you look at what beers are being served! I would never ever pay that amount for a Miller Light.

- Another funny thing is that the temperature at which they measured the beer is not really that warm. What they should have said is that most good beers can be consumed at or around 60 degrees but these garbage American mass produced beers must be served at a taste bud chilling 40 degrees or lower.

Amazing how the media can try to write a good beer story but not quite be able to hit it on the head.
